SMA National Conference
Thank you for making the 2011 SMA Conference a success!

Awards Committee:

Joris Drayer (Chair) – Temple University
Windy Dees – University of Miami
Joseph E. Mahan III – Temple University
Jessica R. Braunstein-Minkove – Towson University
Todd Hall – Georgia Southern University

Best Paper Awards:

From each conference track, the abstract that received the highest overall score from the blind reviews was nominated for the Conference’s Best Paper Award.  Additionally, the two papers (from any track) that received the highest score but were not highest in their track received “wild card” nominations.  These eight (8) authors were invited to submit an extended short paper of no more than 3,000 words by September 15th.  With the help of the Awards Committee and SMA’s Executive Board, a second round of double-blind reviews will be conducted and the paper receiving the highest score will be announced at the conference in October.

Additionally, the five (5) student abstracts with the highest overall score from the blind reviews (regardless of conference track) were nominated for Best Student Paper.  These authors are going through a similar process to the Best Conference Paper mentioned above.

Other Awards Committee Initiatives:

Beginning in 2012, SMA will begin awarding Lifetime Scholar Awards to those who have published extensively in SMQ and presented excellent research at SMA.  Guidelines for this award will be released in the coming months.

Again, to be awarded for the first time at the 2012 conference, SMA will soon begin soliciting nominations for a new “Sport Marketing Achievement Award” to be awarded to the individual who has best exemplified the mission of the Sport Marketing Association.

SMA is also exploring the possibility of awarding grants to fund outstanding research.  Details TBD.
